It was a great night at the Pittsburgh Smart 50 Awards where our president and CEO, Teresa Huber, was honored as a member of the 2019 Smart 50. The Smart 50 Awards recognize the top executives of the 50 smartest companies in the Greater Pittsburgh region for their ability to effectively build and lead successful organizations. Thank you for the recognition, Smart 50 magazine, and congratulations to all of this year’s honorees!

CEO Teresa Huber was recognized by Smart Business magazine as the top executive of one of the 50 smartest companies in the Greater Pittsburgh region.

COO Scott Gustafson and CFO Melanie Keenan accepted the award on behalf of Teresa Huber who was traveling on company business.

It was great fun to have students from Norwin Middle School with us last week to kick off filming for their “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” video entry. The kids looked like pros interviewing and filming Director of Operations Joe Benz about what Intervala does in the manufacturing arena. They are participating in an annual student video contest sponsored by Catalyst Connection. The STEAM-focused program pairs up middle school students across Pennsylvania with local companies to create a new perspective on the exciting career opportunities that exist in manufacturing. Voting for the best student video will take place in early February with winners announced later that month.

Congratulations to our Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) members who completed their biennial emergency safety training last week! The team earned renewed certification on first aid, CPR, AED, fire extinguisher safety and hazardous materials identification. Big thanks to Fire Chief Bill Frye of nearby Jeannette, Pa., for conducting the training.

Our MERT team is the first line of response in the event of a medical emergency at Intervala. Each area of our facility and every shift includes at least one team member to ensure speedy assistance should a coworker be in distress.  

Thank you to the caring and dedicated employees who volunteer to serve on MERT, including veteran team members Janet Grzandziel and Sarah Martin (team leaders), Chris Brison, Jason Eddy, Eric Kline, Keith Nelson and Dan Ruggiero, and recent additions Tara Lofstrom and Lori White!     

MERT is just one of many committees that Intervala employees can get involved with beyond their day-to-day activities.

Let’s shoo away the flu! Intervala employees received free flu shots today without having to leave the building. A RITE AID pharmacist came on site to expertly administer the annual employee benefit. Many thanks to her and to our Human Resources Coordinator Danice McShane for coordinating the event! As you can see from our #FluShotSelfies, this year’s flu won’t make us blue!
